A recognized services company in New York City is actively seeking a new Media Rights & Clearances Consultant to join their team. In this role, the Media Rights & Clearances Consultant will review, assess, and resolve rights-related issues within a large catalog of original content and identify solutions to create an evergreen version of the assets.
About the Opportunity:
- Start Date: ASAP
- Assignment Length: 2 to 3 months
- Hours: 9am to 5pm (40-hours paid per week; flexible with start time)
Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Rights Management team to review approximately 3,000 hours of assets within the Rights Logic database, verifying all rights information against current exhibition contracts for completeness and accuracy
- Screen and analyze original episodes and associated production materials using the organization’s proprietary internal systems to confirm underlying rights, permissions, and clearances
- Identify timecodes and create detailed rights logs for all third-party materials, talent appearances, or restricted content elements via Media Pulse & Mediator systems
- Conduct comprehensive content risk assessments, identifying potential rights issues and advising on viable remediation options (e.g., edits, revoices, music replacements, or rights extensions)
- Provide guidance on outside media licensing fees and usage parameters for music, footage, stills, and other third-party materials
- Support negotiations with external rights owners, music publishers, and licensing agencies to resolve restricted or expiring rights and secure extensions or new agreements as needed
- Review marketing, promotional, and press materials to ensure compliance with all talent, likeness, and usage restrictions across linear, digital, and social media platforms where applicable
- Maintain clear documentation of findings, recommendations, and updates to ensure transparent reporting and audit readiness across internal systems
- Perform other duties, as needed
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in Rights & Clearances, Legal Affairs, or Content Licensing for television, Film, or Streaming Media
- Bachelor’s Degree in Media, Communications, Business, Legal Studies, or a related field
- Strong understanding of Copyright, Trademark, Music Publishing, and Talent Contract Usage principles
- Proven ability to interpret and operationalize exhibition and distribution contracts
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
