Provides professional nursing care under supervision for assigned patients in the Ambulatory Care Center according to established standards and practices.

BLS Certification
Experience doing Intakes, Administer Vaccines, Clinical support for MD, Patient Care

QUALITY OF WORK:
- Patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
- Screens (walk-in/telephone and schedule appointments) patients and makes the appropriate referral for services required.
- Performs venipuncture for tests as outlined in AHS policy and procedures manual and as ordered by the physician; rarely misses vein.
- Prepares charts for sessions as assigned by Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse and assures that all laboratory work and ancillary reports are entered.
- Documents all clinical transactions with patient on patient's chart. Assists Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse with case management activities as assigned and documents actions taken.
- Assists medical staff with treatment and diagnostic procedures (e.g., urine catherterization, fixes slides for pap smears, hand instruments to physicians).
- Under the direction of a registered nurse or physician, changes dressings that require sterile technique.
- Performs EKGs and venipuncture on adults and pediatric patients. Labeling all tests and designating them to proper areas. Performs PPD implants and reads results. Administers injections (flu shots and immunizations).
- Monitors equipment and supplies for clinic session, assuring adequate quantities are available; reports shortages to Nursing Manager/Charge Nurse .
- Provides and promotes safe and clean environment for patients (e.g., prepares examining rooms between patient visits, performs light housekeeping duties during and after each clinic session).
- Arranges laboratory tests, special clinic appointments (Cardiac, GI, etc.) according to physicians orders.
- Answers patient questions and gives instructions on tests and procedures that are to be performed; attempts to reduce patient's anxiety and fear..
- Performs patient care follow ups (e.g. checking on broken appointments, confirming appointments or tests by telephone); documents action taken in patient's chart. Scheduling patient appointments on computerized system.
- Demonstrates concern for cleanliness of self and work area; practices infection control (hand washing) for protection of patient and self.
- Observes hospital policies concerning smoking, telephone use and other related rules governing conduct.
- Coordinates assignments to maintain patient flow throughout clinic.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Reinforces patient education and teaching performed by RN or physician and documents educational efforts in patient’s charts.
- Transcribes and carries out physicians orders.
- Acts as a liaison for patients and their families and/or significant others; provides psychological support.
- Appropriately obtains specific visit type information or intake in order to prepare patient adequately for physicians examination (i.e., vision test, urine pregnancy test, glucose monitoring).
- Keeps work area clean and tidy.
KNOWLEDGE OF JOB:
- Demonstrates understanding of policies and procedures concerning the Ambulatory Care Center as outlined in the policy and procedures manual.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the hospital's fire and safety procedures as they apply to the Ambulatory Care Center and can be relied upon to apply them in an emergency situation.
- Communicates and shares information about new or existing policies, procedures, techniques, etc. at in-services.
- Maintains current licensure/certification as required.
- Demonstrates competence in all procedures required of an LPN in the Ambulatory Care Center
- Actively participates in required in-services and departmental meetings.
