A community-focused organization in Brooklyn, NY, is currently seeking a Housing Specialist to join their team, working with a diverse clientele and supporting their journey towards independent living.

About the Opportunity:
  • Shift: Primarily day shifts with one evening shift weekly
  • Schedule: Sunday to Thursday
  • Hours: 9am to 5pm (Wednesday are 1pm to 9pm)
Responsibilities:
  • Conducting comprehensive housing searches and maintaining landlord relationships
  • Developing and facilitating housing workshops and educational materials
  • Evaluating housing packages and coordinating move-in processes
  • Escorting clients to housing appointments and providing post-move follow-up support
  • Building partnerships with community organizations and housing providers
  • Advocating effectively with brokers and landlords on behalf of clients
  • Performing client intake, assessments, and regular re-evaluations
  • Maintaining confidential client files and ensuring documentation compliance
  • Developing individualized housing plans and monitoring progress
  • Assisting with benefit applications and coordinating with referral agencies
  • Providing patient counseling to clients resistant to housing transitions
  • Updating electronic databases and generating required reports
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external partners
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and organizational policies
Qualifications:
  • 1 year of relevant experience in Housing or a related field
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA, BSW) or equivalent experience
  • In-depth knowledge of Rental Subsidy programs
  • Familiarity with Housing Package Submission procedures
  • Proficiency in Electronic Record-keeping Systems (such as CARES)
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and advocacy capabilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desired Qualifications:
  • Advanced Degree in Social Work or related field
  • Bilingual
  • Knowledge of NYCHA/Public Housing processes
