A nonprofit services organization in New York City is seeking a new Housing Specialist to support survivors of domestic violence residing in the shelter as they transition into permanent housing.

About the Opportunity:
- Start Date: ASAP
- Assignment Length: 3+ months
- Schedule: Monday to Friday
- Hours: 9am to 5pm or 10am to 6pm
- Program: Domestic Violence Shelter
Responsibilities:
- Assess clients’ housing needs and develop individualized housing plans
- Determine eligibility for housing subsidies and public benefits
- Complete and submit housing applications
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation
- Review leases, riders, and housing paperwork with strong attention to detail
- Build and maintain relationships with landlords, brokers, and property management companies
- Conduct outreach to identify housing opportunities
- Maintain and update the housing resource database
- Identify community resources to support families in securing housing
- Conduct individual counseling and advocacy
- Facilitate workshops and support groups (e.g., job readiness, dressing for success, interview preparation)
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation when needed
- Participate in team meetings and case conferences
- Track housing placements and outcomes
- Contribute to program reports and evaluation
Qualifications:
- 1+ year of relevant Housing experience
- High School Diploma / GED
- Strong experience with HRA and Housing Application processes
- Experience working with families in Shelter Systems
- Knowledge of NYC housing market and subsidy programs
Desired Skills:
- Associate's and/or Bachelor's Degree
